MISSION Recruit, train, provide employment referrals services to, and retain individuals in Southwestern Pennsylvania (SWPA), by promoting skill enrichment, career opportunities and personal development of Hispanic individuals and their families. VISION To strengthen the economy of SWPA by supporting the development of the regional workforce, while enhancing the growth and well-being of the Hispanic community. GENERAL SERVICES The Hispanic Center functions as a center of resources working with key partner organizations to help clients access services they need. Service Directory A wide range of these services can be found in our Service Directory. It is the most comprehensive service directory ever made specifically for the Latino community in Soutwestern Pennsylvania. The directory includes information necessary for residents new to the Pittsburgh areas from what to do in case of an emergency to where to get your car registered. Additionally, it will benefit Human Resource managers seeking a more diverse workforce, because they can use it to jprovide easy transition to their new Spanish speaking employees. You will find information on employment and training, financial institutions, bilingual health services, educational services like English as a second language classes, social service organizations and even multicultural and recreational groups. Success in The U.S. Educational Spanish DVD's In partnership with Iowa State University Extension, The Hispanic Center's main objective is to provide information, in Spanish, about living in the United States in regards to taxes, healthcare, public assistance, education, finance, legal system and immigration for newly arrived residents, service providers, organizations, employee and employers, and other institutions. The DVDs intend to help break through language and cultural barriers, giving individuals tools to achieve independence and self-sufficiency, promote community involvement, and ultimately reduce potential problems that result from misunderstanding. FREE CAREER SERVICES TO JOB SEEKERS The Hispanic Center assists job seekers by providing: Referrals to job opportunities Resume and Interview assistance Up-to-date weekly job posting circulation Resume Workshops In alliance with Carnegie Mellon University, the Hispanic Center offers resume workshops for individuals with varying levels of English. Volunteers work one-on-one with clients to create a professional resume, set-up email accounts, and register participants on monster.com. The workshops are made possible by the help of bilingual volunteers and staff members from The Hispanic Center and Carnegie Mellon Human Resources department. Hispanic Job Fairs The Hispanic Center works in collaboration with other organizations to sponsor Hispanic Job Fairs. Government agencies and private enterprises participate in these events. All job seekers are welcome regardless of race, religion, or country of origin. "The Hispanic Job Fair at Carnegie Mellon University on May 2007 was host to 24 private businesses and 11 government agencies providing many different and insteresting opportunities for job seekers.
