Phlebotomy skills preferred (with or without phlebotomy training or certification).OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Familiarity with the operations and performance of all other departments within the organization. Excellent written and oral communication skills. Proven track record of providing superior customer service, exhibited ability to work at or above established standards of performance and demonstrated commitment to the organization and support for its mission and vision Job Description: SUMMARY: Functions in all capacities of the blood donor collection process including assessing eligibility and the collection of units of blood which are safe, pure, potent, and efficacious. Demonstrates excellence in customer service and public relations to promote a positive and professional image of the American Red Cross. Works independently with attention to detail and possesses full knowledge of all aspects of the daily collection operation. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned. 1. Maintain current knowledge and understanding of regulations in the Code of Federal Regulations, American Red Cross Blood Services Directives, Greater Alleghenies Region Standard Operating Procedures and other applicable federal, state, and local laws appropriate for job functions. All job duties must be performed in compliance with these standards and adherence to all safety, confidentiality, and security policies. 2. Assesses donor health and determines eligibility status according to established donation standards. 3. Performs phlebotomies as required. 4. Performs quality control of equipment/supplies with attention to detail and accuracy. 5. Establishes and maintains professional and confidential climate for donor interview. 6. Ensures thorough, legible documentation and review of all applicable paperwork. 7. Makes appropriate referrals to collection supervisor or charge nurse. 8. Demonstrates excellent customer service behaviors according to established standards. 9. Performs duties as assigned at any workstation in a compliant and customer-focused manner. 10. Works as assigned in any capacity in the donor processing belt line. 11. Assumes driving duties as needed. 12. If certified as a preceptor/instructor, trains staff as requested according to established training guidelines. 13. Consistently reflects a positive image in dealing with donors, volunteers, and staff and contributes to maintaining a warm, considerate, human relations environment while maintaining a professional attitude in all situations. 14. Responsible for set-up/breakdown of donor processing belt line and proper placement of equipment as assigned. 15. Reports to supervisor needed supplies to be replaced.16. Handles equipment with respect and care.
