Job Description
Openings exist in our Philadelphia Office for engineering co-op students interested in joining a progressive engineering company with potential to gain experience on a variety of challenging transportation projects that include work within the highway, bridge, mass transit, freight rail, and airport industries. Typical projects include the Route 309 Widening, reconstruction of I-476, rehabilitation of the Schuylkill Expressway, rehabilitation and re-decking of the Walt Whitman Bridge and its approaches, and several 10 mile reconstruction sections of the Pennsylvania Turnpike. Clients include PennDOT, DelDOT, PA Turnpike Commission, Norfolk Southern Railroad, CSXT, Amtrak, the Delaware River Port Authority, the City of Philadelphia and SEPTA. Job Description: Responsibilities will include assisting with preliminary to final design calculations and plan development, reviewing of field information, and possible field inspection of existing facilities. Students will be assigned to the civil/highway department. Assignments will include assisting in the development of roadway alignments, hydraulic and hydrologic analysis, stormwater design, traffic control plans, erosion control plans, right-of-way determination, utility coordination, and environmental permitting.
All positions will incorporate the use of CADD, a variety of design software packages and MS Office applications. General office administration, including report reproduction, collation and deliveries will also be expected. All of this work is consistent with the duties of an entry level, graduate engineer's responsibilities. Enthusiastic individuals eager to face new challenges and take on personal responsibilities are best qualified to meet the demands of this work. A co-op student is expected to be able to apply technical training to perform basic calculations, work well in a team setting and be willing to work diligently to learn new skills. Computer literacy and a demonstrated ability to learn quickly are a requirement. The person must be able to adjust to short term assignments as well as remain dedicated to long term projects.
